2009 District: 16-3A-Atlanta, Mount Vernon, New Boston, Pittsburg, Liberty-Eylau, Pleasant Grove

The Pirates were the surprise team of 2008 and things look even better as they only lose 2 starters from last year’s team. Leading the charge of 8 returning starters is All-State P/OF Jared Duncan (.535, 10 HRs, 32 RBIs). Other returning starters include Sr Inf Ian DeLuna (.330, 4 Hrs, 35 Runs), Sr C Trevor Boles (.367), Sr Clayton Ferguson, Sr. Dakota Allen (.280), Jr SS Cody Sewell (.333), So Koe Wetzel (.343. 5 HRs, 25 RBIs), and So 1B Tony Garcia.

Pittsburg also returns 4 of its top 5 pitchers including #1 and #2 pitchers Duncan (7-2, 2.77, 75 K’s) and Ferguson (8-5, 4.08, 59 K’s). Also returning with experience on the mound is So Saul Martinez (1-0, 4.47).

8 returning starters plus several other players with varsity experience makes things look bright in 2009. If the seniors will provide good leadership, this team could compete for a trip to Austin next season.

Paris Junior College has accepted Jared Duncan for a scholarship to play baseball in the fall. Present at the signing were, back row, left to right Aaron Duncan, Deron Clark, and Garrett Patterson. On the front row are Duncan and his parents, Angie and Bates Duncan.
